Domane Wachau Terrassen Smaragd Grüner Veltliner 2013

Dürnstein, Austria

In these last few weeks of winter, red wines still tend to steal the show but that doesn't mean you have to shelve the whites. If you're having a hard time picturing a white wine being warm and cozy, think of it fireside with a steaming bowl of soup. Let me suggest a Grüner Veltliner with that. It is the mostly widely planted grape in Austria and what I consider as an exotic substitute to Sauvignon Blanc. This is a lively, medium bodied, sightly peppery wine. If you don't have it with an earthy mushroom bisque, it's a great way to fancy up some frozen Cheemo Perogies.
