2019 Klinker Brick Albariño

Lodi, California

New year, old me! I guess the only thing that is kind of new is that I can’t stop drinking white wines! In this season of long nights, braised meats, and chunky sweaters, I find myself still reaching for refreshing white wines.

I have always been a fan of Spanish wines so the only surprising thing about this Albariño is where it is from. Lodi, California is mostly home of Zinfandel, but it is also a melting pot for some lesser-known quirky grapes like Vermentino, Tannat and Albariño.

Klinker Brick Winery is committed to producing world class wine. Steve and Lori Felten are fifth generation wine growers and have been tending to vines that their ancestors planted in the early 1900’s!

This wine is bursting with peach, lime and other citrus fruits, and as expected with Albariño (and probably the reason I love them), a healthy dose of minerality. I also find it has a more rounded mouth feel than its Spanish counterpart.

So, don’t be afraid to open a white wine, like the Klinker Brick Albariño, with that hearty stew or bubbling Shepherd’s Pie. Those slow cooked comfort foods benefit greatly from the acidity and refreshing finish that they bring.
