2014 Reversanti Barolo

Barolo, Italy

Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year as it’s such a beautiful time to enjoy the outdoors and break out those cozy sweaters. With the abundance of fresh vegetables and hearty foods that come with the season, I also tend to drink more earthy and structured reds, of which Barolo is a great option!

Established in 2005, Reversanti is a relatively new winery which is a collaboration between a few producers who supply fruit from their respective communes within the Barolo region; Marcarini from La Morra, Bongiovani from Castiglione Falletto, and Einaudi from Barolo. The result is a fantastic wine at a great price that showcases some of the various terroirs within the region.

By law, Barolo is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes and must be aged for at least three years (in oak and bottle) before its release. Don’t let the lighter colour fool you, Barolo wines are full bodied with high acid and high tannins, but are equally fine and elegant as well. The Reversanti Barolo has all the characteristic flavours you can expect from great Barolo - rose petals, cherries, baking spices, tobacco, and leather, but is made in a slightly more approachable style that is ready to enjoy now and over the next few years. Try pairing it with braised meats and stews, charcuterie, or fresh Italian truffles, you will not be disappointed!
