Dani's Staff Pick for Spring 2021
March 20th
2018 Tenuta di Tavignano Costa Verde Verdicchio
Marche, Italy
Under the name Verdicchio Bianco, its main area of cultivation is the Marche in eastern central Italy, where it is best known as a varietal wine in the DOCs of Verdicchio Di Castilli di Jesi. Verdicchio is an extremely widespread and probably very old variety from the Veneto in northern Italy or from central Italy, known under a great variety of synonyms. Verdicchio is also genetically identical to Trebbiano di Soave. Verdicchio Dei Castelli di Jesi DOC is an appellation located around the municipality of Jesi in the Marche region, between Ancona and Macerata provinces. The word “castelli” means castle in Italian, which is a reference to the ancient governance system of the municipalities in this area, which dates back to the Middle Ages.
I was born and raised in Calgary which can only mean that patio weather starts as soon as we get above -10. This wine is the perfect patio wine and gets me excited for summer. If you frequently drink Sauvignon Blanc then you’ll love this wine! Straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections and aroma of caramelized pineapple and floral notes. Ideal pairing with seafood, omelettes with spring herbs, simple pasta and rice dishes... or just on a patio by itself!
