2014 Catalugna Ancestral Vinya del Mas Brut Nature Pepe Raventos

This wine is the very first vintage from the grandson of Josep Maria Raventos. The Raventos I Blanc family vineyard dates back to the late part of the 15th century. They were the founding family of estate Cava. Pepe Raventos is the 21st generation of the family, farms 44 plots using biodynamic winegrowing methods. This delicious sparkling wine is the product of Pepe wanting to try something different. In 2014, Pepe Raventós started a small project focused on making natural wines. His desire was to learn how to make wine recovering ancient winemaking techniques. The wines were vinified in the garage of his new home in the middle of the Raventós i Blanc estate.

The wine was fermented with spontaneous yeast in stainless steel barrels. It’s unfiltered and has no added sulfites. The wine is then bottled with a bit of unfermented sugar which starts a natural secondary fermentation in bottle. The grape is Xarel.lo which is one of the three traditional varieties used to make Cava. This sparkling wine is funky, refreshing and complex. It’s dry with savoury notes, lemon and spices. It’s the perfect wine for celebrating the holiday season!
