2019 Anthony Buchanan FUBAR

Okanagan Valley, B.C.

It’s no secret that I love a super fresh, light bodied red that I can drink at “fridge-temp”, so when Juice Imports offered us this blend consisting of predominantly Zweigelt and Gamay (two of my absolute faves), I jumped on it! This was featured in the April BRICKS 6, but we do have a little but left over!

Anthony Buchanan has worked in cellars on both Vancouver Island and in the Okanagan alongside some of the most accomplished winemakers in Canada since 2006, but has been making his own wines since 2014.

Honesty and transparency in the winemaking process is incredibly important to him.

“We’re a true family winery; my children, Lawson and Ashlyn help pick, sort and foot-tread the grapes, and my wife, Nichol takes care of the business side of things. Growing grapes and making wine in the Okanagan Valley is a long-term love affair for us, and one day we hope our kids take over to keep our dream alive.” -Anthony Buchanan

Comprised of 38% Zweigelt, 28% Gamay, 17% Pinot Noir, 13% Syrah & 4% Muscat FUBAR is all about that Beaujolais influence; it’s a young, crisp, bright red blend. You can (should)serve it slightly chilled and drink it on its own or it’s a perfect picnic wine. Each grape variety was fermented separately in different vessels: wooden open top fermenters, a qvevri, and concrete eggs!

This is crunchy and punchy with all the BLUEBERRIES! Fresh blueberries, blueberry jam, blueberry pie…! Along with some blackberries, violets, thyme, sage and pink peppercorns.

Grab your picnic blanket and head to a sunny spot to enjoy this beauty with some cheese and charcuterie or some deli sandwiches.

And yes, FUBAR is referencing the military acronym for “f*@$#& up beyond all recognition”!
